Huize van Wely, 100 Years of Excellence
I was asked by Tania Tjiptobiantoro, Sylvain Julien and Cindy Ho Umetada from The Papilion (Jakarta), to work on a book project to celebrate the 100 years of the famous Dutch patisserie Huize van Wely. The result is a 256 pages book, 238 x 276 mm, printed on the beautiful Munken Polar paper at French Escoubiac Print. The book presents Huize van Wely through portraits and interviews of key persons and employes making the Huize van Wely story every day, and through recipies and anecdotes.

The 2030 NOW Poster Exhibition on Bornholm, Denmark
The project is a series of posters, each representing one of the 17 SDG’s, all together forming an exhibition which will be shipped to 2.000 Danish schools in 2019. The educational institutions will receive the material all free of charge. In cooperation with the coming Folkemødet on Bornholm, the school project will be pre-launched, as an eye catching outdoor exhibition. Also the outdoor exhibition will be on show throughout Summer and Autumn in the city of Allinge on Bornholm, to communicate the UN Sustainable Development Goals to a wider audience. French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand has kindly donated the use of 17 chapter photos from the book 2030 NOW.

Bianca Jagger on Human Rights, Climate Change (& Brexit)
2030 NOW
Recently she’s contributed to an ambitious book, 2030 NOW, which brings together artists, campaigners and global ‘action heroes’ to highlight the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Illustrated with spectacular photography by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the book marks the start of a worldwide project to raise awareness of the UN’s work. It was launched at Harvey Nichols in early March, where Bianca made a speech as Ambassador for Goal 13: Climate Action. Other ambassadors include Sir Richard Branson, Glenn Close, Richard Curtis and Michelle Yeoh.
I say I was surprised not to see Bianca as Ambassador for Goal 05: Gender Equality, a role taken by Marta Vieira da Silva, but Bianca sees how broad Goal 13 is and has embraced it wholeheartedly. ‘Climate action is of particular concern to me because it directly affects human rights – it’s inextricably linked with them,’ she says. ‘If we don’t tackle climate change now, our efforts to improve all people’s lives will be to no avail. A grave mistake is the way climate change is being represented to the public, as if its catastrophic consequences are in the distance and far away. But they’re happening right here and now. This February was Britain’s hottest on record. In Britain we see migration as a threat but if we don’t tackle climate change, millions will be forced to flee their homes and migration will become an even more enormous issue. How can governments continue to deny that climate change is going to have a momentous impact on all of us?’

Nadine Labaki On Why She Is Not Afraid Of Emotions
March heralds “Reading Month” in the UAE, and if you’re looking for an inspirational piece of literature to bump to the top of your reading list, we have just the book for you. Published by Life Publishing, 2030 NOW is a coffee table book that highlights the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for the next ten years, and some of the empowering individuals that are at the forefront of turning them into a reality. The 296-page hardcover features a series of interviews from some of the most influential figures across film, music, politics, culture, science, and art, including Oscar-nominated actress Glenn Close, former actress and human rights advocate Bianca Jagger, and former supermodel and activist Liya Kebede, among many others.
Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki, whose politically-charged film Capharnaüm was recently nominated for an Academy Award, is also featured in the coffee table book. Labaki is known to use her voice and platform to champion change by shedding light on global issues pertaining to child poverty, the refugee crisis, and society’s underprivileged, and 2030 NOW is no exception. “The objective of my films cannot be only artistic, it has to be placed at the service of a greater social cause,” she previously stated in an interview with Vogue Arabia. “If a film succeeds in influencing its viewers, this impact might reach various levels, and this is what pushes me to explore deeper and more important topics after every cinematic experience,” she explains.
The book also features exclusive photographs by Yann Arthus-Bertrand that illustrate these 17 key goals, which serve as a road map towards a better future.
