I AM THE FOREST

Borneo’s rainforest is one of the places on Earth with the greatest diversity of species. It is teeming with life. Different mammals, birds, insects, and trees that grow into the sky. New unknown species are
discovered daily, and many of them do not exist anywhere else in the world.

One of the most iconic species is the orangutan, which only lives on Borneo and Sumatra. This great ape is a keystone species that has a significant impact on the ecosystem in Borneo. It is a symbol of the importance of retaining the biodiversity that exists in these ancient forests.

Animals, plants, and whole ecosystems are threatened by industrialization, which causes vast areas of rainforest to be cleared and leaves the animals homeless. This happens all around the world and is a key reason we are now facing a major biodiversity crisis.

The exhibition ‘I Am the Forest’ celebrates the rainforest and biodiversity of Borneo. It opens a small window into a corner of the world that bursts with life. Life that is interconnected with ours.

The exhibition is inspired by one of the same name, which was developed and showcased in Kalimantan, Borneo in 2016.

The photos in this exhibition were taken by a mix of local photographers from Borneo and internationally recognised photographers. They have provided us with their photos because they are passionate about the rich wildlife of Borneo and wish to inspire protection of the forest and biodiversity.

The exhibition has been created with support from the William Demant Foundation, Brødrene Hartmanns Foundation, The Danish Tennis Foundation
