A new collaboration and new bookline with French publisher « Les 8 Cobras ».

This booklet is a tribute to fourteen wonderful grandmothers and one grandfather, illustrated with rare and precious vintage photographs.
We, the grandchildren, also share our memories and their recipes from near and far.
It is a gentle invitation to taste our family flavors with the rest of the world.

At Mémé Madeleine’s, to fight off boredom, I would spend endless hours in front of her open wardrobe door, gazing at her neatly folded silky saris. Right in front of my nose: jewelry, both fake and real, in a crocodile-skin box. On the same shelf, three photo albums in black and white, the pictures glued in, sometimes retouched — often taken in a studio in India or Vietnam… I loved looking at these images of distant family, between two crêpes.

The starting point for this project was the discovery of a photograph of my friend Florence’s great-great-grandmother, dressed in traditional Alsatian clothing. Our origins dazzle me.

Bringing together the recipes, memories, and photographs of these family beauties naturally led to the creation of this booklet. Our French and European identity is also enriched by the migrations of our ancestors and our romantic blends. Some international clowns would do well to reflect on that…

Chez Mémé Madeleine, pour combattre l’ennui, je passais un temps infini devant la porte de son armoire ouverte, à contempler ses saris soyeux bien pliés. Juste devant mon nez : des bijoux, toc et pas toc, dans un coffret en peau de crocodile. Sur la même étagère, trois albums de photos en noir et blanc, collées, parfois retouchées — souvent prises dans un studio en Inde ou au Vietnam… J’adorais regarder ces images de la famille lointaine, entre deux crêpes.

Le point de départ de ce projet a été la découverte d’une photographie de l’arrière-grand-mère de mon amie Florence, en tenue alsacienne traditionnelle. Nos origines m’éblouissent.

Réunir les recettes, les souvenirs et les photographies de ces beautés familiales a permis, très simplement, la création de ce livret. Notre identité française et européenne est aussi riche des migrations de nos aïeux et de nos mélanges amoureux. Certains bouffons internationaux feraient bien d’y réfléchir…
